Meant to Deceive

King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 1:9, “That which has been is that which will be, and that which has been done is that which will be done. So, there is nothing new under the sun.”

Depending on your point of view you will chose to believe one report as opposed to another. One side will say they have the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth and any other interpretation but theirs is wrong while the opposing side will say the same thing. Which is truth and which is fake? Who is to be believed?

There are five verses in the book of Nehemiah that speak to this issue. Nehemiah had asked permission of King Artaxerxes to return to Jerusalem and build up the wall that had been torn down decades earlier by the armies of Nebuchadnezzar. During the process of carrying out his commission he encountered much resistance.

Nehemiah 6:5-9, In the same way Sanballat for the fifth time sent his servant to me with an open letter in his hand. In it was written, “It is reported among the nations, and Geshem also says it, that you and the Jews intend to rebel; that is why you are building the wall. And according to these reports you wish to become their king. And you have also set up prophets to proclaim concerning you in Jerusalem, ‘There is a king in Judah.’ And now the king will hear of these reports. So now come and let us take counsel together.”

Then I sent to him, saying, “No such things as you say have been done, for you are inventing them out of your own mind.”

For they all wanted to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will drop from the work, and it will not be done.” But now, O God, strengthen my hands.”

How did Nehemiah counter this attempt by Sanballat to deceive the people into stopping the rebuilding of the wall? Nehemiah knew he had a commission from YHVH to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the wall. His request to return had favor from King Artaxerxes and the people were willing. So, Nehemiah knew what he knew — that YHVH was with him in this. Nehemiah countered deception with YHVH’s revealed truth.

Today there are many “Sanballat” news purveyors! They come with reports of racism, sexual misconduct, unfair treatment, gender inequality; their purpose is the same and that is to frighten the masses into accepting an agenda opposed to Yahweh’s purpose for His children.

Is it YHVH’s purpose for His children to bow to the abortion on demand agenda?

Is it YHVH’s purpose for His children to accept and commend a redefinition of marriage?

Is it YHVH’s purpose for His children to deny who He created them to be?

Is it YHVH’s purpose for His children to suffer under different standards of conduct; differing weights and measures?

Is it YHVH’s purpose that His children should hate one another because of differing ideologies or skin color?

All of these and more divide us. Scripture tells us in Mark 3:24-27, “If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.”

Todays “Sanballat’s” are frightening the people; and fright is causing people to become divisive. This was plainly evidenced in the Alabama special election for Senator to replace Jeff Sessions. Our modern “Sanballat’s” released a report accusing candidate Roy Moore with sexual misconduct. Without an investigation or a trial Roy Moore was convicted, tried and hung in the court of public opinion. Now what does the very ‘red’ state of Alabama have as their representative in the Senate none other than the person of “Sanballat’s” choice. If the people of Alabama had taken a moment and thought this thing through they might have reasoned something like this; if we elect Roy Moore despite what the “Sanballat’s” are trying to tell us and these allegations are brought up by his fellow Senators which leads to a trial and he is found guilty and removed from office then our governor will appoint an interim Senator which will more than likely reflect the views of most Alabamans. But, if he is found innocent of these charges then we will have a Senator that represents our conservative views. But sadly that is not what happened and for the next four years Alabama will be represented by a man that does not reflect the views and beliefs of the majority of his constituents.

“Sanballat” wins with his ‘meant to deceive’ agenda over and over again. His tactic is to frighten thus keeping Yahweh’s children from fulfilling the purposes of YHVH for our life, the lives of our children, the life of our nation and the life of this world. YHVH’s purpose is the salvation of us; bringing us back into relationship with Him. Everything else is meant to deceive and keep us from that most precious of all things; us together in Him!

“Sanballat” frightened us into believing that separation of church and state was necessary for our nation’s well-being and all mention of God, the Bible, Christianity must be scrubbed from our culture.

“Sanballat” frightened us into believing that we had to control our “out-of-control” population by killing our most innocent of all, our unborn, under the guise of a woman’s right to choose.

“Sanballat” frightened us into believing that if we didn’t accept any and all sexual deviancies we would be guilty of unfair practices and liable for jail time and outrageous fines.

“Sanballat” frighten us into believing that it is racist to want immigration enforcement as evidenced by sanctuary cities and states.

“Sanballat” is trying to convince us that our president, Donald Trump, is mentally unfit to hold office. Will “Sanballat” win this one?

To fight “Sanballat” we must know what YHVH’s will is for us and that is found in Jeremiah 29:11-14, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.”

Our hope is not found in President Trump or Senators or Representatives or the United Nations or mega church pastors preaching prosperity; our hope is in Yashua our Savior. In HIM alone do I put my trust!

But in saying that do I mean that we are to drop out of the fight? Nehemiah continued to build the wall until the work was finished; a trowel in one hand and a sword in the other. So we must continue to build up the Kingdom of YHVH by not letting the deceptions of “Sanballat” frighten us into submission to their agendas.

Remember the apostle Paul’s words to the Romans (8:28), “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” And from John 13:35, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
