A Thought for Your Day

Joseph said he would introduce his family to Pharaoh as shepherds when he knew that occupation was loathsome to the Egyptians and he told his family to reinforce this perception.

Genesis 46:33-34, “When Pharaoh calls you and says, ‘What is your occupation?’ you shall say, ‘Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ that you may live in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is loathsome to the Egyptians.”

Why did he want his family to appear as loathsome to the Egyptians?

Could it be for their own protection…so that they would stay separate from the Egyptians by living in the land of Goshen? Scripture has guidelines about things that are not to be mixed from Leviticus 19:19, ‘You are to keep My statutes. You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle; you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together. The children of Israel were YHVH’s chosen nation — set apart for His purpose. We are not to mix the sacred or set-apart with the profane or common. As followers of Yashua haMachiach we are called to be set-apart, separate from the world; in the world yet not of the world. Rev 18:4-5, “I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues; for her sins have piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.”

Psalm 81:7-9, “You called in trouble and I rescued you; I answered you in the hiding place of thunder; I proved you at the waters of Meribah. Selah. “Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you; O Israel, if you would listen to Me! “Let there be no strange god among you; nor shall you worship any foreign god.”

Luke 5:16-17, “But Yashua Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray. One day He was teaching… and the power of YHVH was present for Him to perform healing.” If you want to be available for YHVH’s power to flow through you — spend time alone in prayer!
