Genesis 47:13-14, “Now there was no food in all the land, because the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine. Joseph gathered all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the grain which they bought, and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.”
There is a progression to “slavery” found in this story of the famine; 1)circumstances demand that you use up all your savings—your extra—to sustain life, verse 11 of chapter 45. 2) In chapter 47:14, the verse reads that the government had gathered up all the money in the land. 3)Verse 16 of chapter 47 tells us that the next step to slavery is that your means of making money is taken away; and step 4 found in verse 18 is that your land is taken from you and all that is left for you to sustain life is to sell yourself. You are now the government’s slave and one fifth of everything you do is the governments.
Genesis 47:23, Then Joseph said to the people, “Behold, I have today bought you and your land for Pharaoh; now, here is seed for you, and you may sow the land.
Genesis 47:25, So they said, “You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s slaves.”
It seems that if we look to the world and its systems for our sustenance, we will become enslaved to it, but YHVH does have a way out of this enslavement. Reading in Ezekiel 37:21-28, “Say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king will be king for all of them; and they will no longer be two nations and no longer be divided into two kingdoms. “They will no longer defile themselves with their idols, or with their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. And they will be My people, and I will be their God. “My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd; and they will walk in My ordinances and keep My statutes and observe them. “They will live on the land that I gave to Jacob My servant, in which your fathers lived; and they will live on it, they, and their sons and their sons’ sons, forever; and David My servant will be their prince forever. “I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will place them and multiply them, and will set My sanctuary in their midst forever. “My dwelling place also will be with them; and I will be their God, and they will be My people. “And the nations will know that I am the LORD who sanctifies Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forever.”‘”
